Arizonans Come Out in Force on Comcast Cares Day
For Comcast Arizona, our favorite day of the year is Comcast Cares Day, when we have the opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with our friends, family and neighbors to support community organizations that make this such a wonderful place to live.
On April 22, about 1,000 Comcast employees and their families, friends and community partners volunteered around Tucson as part of the 16th annual Comcast Cares Day.
A Day Like No Other
To Comcast employees in Tucson and across the country, Comcast Cares Day is more than just a day – it’s the culmination of our commitment to volunteerism and making change happen in the communities where we live and work.
This year we worked with five Tucson schools and community-based organizations to provide crews of eager volunteers and all the supplies necessary to complete projects ranging from landscaping and cleanup to painting and construction.
Impact in Arizona
Comcast Cares Day volunteers led projects ranging from cleaning and improving the Tucson Veterans Hospital, sorting donated supplies for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, helping to build a house in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Tucson, and helping the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona improve their camp on Sabina Road to assembling toiletry kits filled with personal hygiene items for children living in foster care in partnership with I Am You 360.
“We are so proud to partner with these important organizations and so proud to witness the amazing change that’s possible when thousands of volunteers donate their time to make a difference in the lives of others,” said Darryl Hawkins, Comcast general manager and director of technical operations.
“We are humbled and inspired by the Tucson community’s response to Comcast Cares Day, and we are so thankful for the participants who help to make this effort a success today and throughout the year,” Hawkins said.
Project Spotlight
I Am You 360, which provides support for at-risk Arizona youth, welcomed volunteers on Comcast Cares Day for a project to assemble hundreds of hygiene kids for youth in foster care.
“When the work was done”, Desiree Cook, President of I Am You 360, “I looked around in wonder at the evidence of the day’s progress.”
“It warmed our hearts to see our youth and families working alongside volunteers from Comcast and the community,” she said. “We would like to thank Comcast for inspiring their employees to give back and make a difference.”
A National Movement
This year on Comcast Cares Day, more than 100,000 volunteers participated in approximately 900 projects across the country and around the world. To date, volunteers have contributed nearly 5 million volunteer hours at 7,700 projects since Comcast Cares Day began in 2001.
For us, Comcast Cares Day is more than just a day – it’s the culmination of Comcast’s commitment to volunteerism that began when our company was founded more than 50 years ago.
