Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson Youths Receive Scholarships and Laptops!
Comcast works to prepare today’s youth to become tomorrow’s leaders by investing in mentoring, service, and scholarship programs that inspire young people to achieve their goals. On October 1st, Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson held its 26th Annual Steak & Burger Dinner & Awards Ceremony at Casino de Sol—to honor 12 high-achieving Southern Arizona students with Youth of the Year Awards and financial college scholarships.
Sammy Martinez, a Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse Member, was presented with a special $2,000 Comcast Academic Achiever Scholarship Award. As an added surprise, all of the student Awardees received Comcast funded laptops, fully loaded with Microsoft Office products and Norton Antivirus, to better equip them for the next stage of their academic careers.
Youth attending the Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse foster hands on digital literacy skills through My.Future – launched in 2014 through a partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal and Boys and Girls Clubs of America – is a technology initiative designed to teach club members about the digital world and ignite their passion around Technology. My.Future allows children to choose between 40 activities that reinforce digital literacy, including areas of exploring the web, communicating with others digitally and building media.
“Thank you so much for your generous support of our youth. Seeing their faces light up was the highlight of the night, and what Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson is all about,” Debbie Wagner, Chief Executive Officer, Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson. “We really appreciate our wonderful partnership and Comcast’s involvement with our Board [of Directors].”
