Congratulations, 2017 Leaders & Achievers Scholarship Winners!
We’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to honor ten Southern Arizona high school seniors with $18,000 in college scholarships through the 2017 Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program last Wednesday, June 7th.
The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program provides one-time $1,000 scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. This year, two of the students were surprised with $5,000 Comcast President’s scholarships. The $5,000 scholarship winners included: Eddie Vargas from Canyon Del Oro High School and Kathleen Armenta from Cholla High Magnet School.
We also surprised six of the students with a laptop computer to use at college!
“As part of our renewed commitment to deliver the best customer experience, we’re investing heavily in new training and tools for our customer service reps to give them everything they need to address our customer’s needs the first time around,” said Michael Eastman, Exec Director, Customer Service Strategy & Ops, AZCoE for Comcast. “We’re also investing in our communities. We understand that so much of Southern Arizona’s future success depends on strong schools, and students who have a passion to learn and grow throughout their academic careers – and lives.” Paloma Santiago, President of Advancement, San Miguel School was the keynote speaker at the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Ceremony which was held at the Comcast’s Center of Excellence building. Following the ceremony students and their families were taken on a tour of the state of the art customer service center.
The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to be prepared for the future, to engage youth in their communities, and to demonstrate the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.
“Comcast truly makes a positive difference on the lives of kids, encouraging them to graduate and pursue higher education. By generously providing scholarship funds and technology to give them a platform to begin from, you are removing what are often tremendous obstacles,” said Lorraine Morgan, Administrator, Public Affairs, Southwest Gas. “Some of the students spoke about how they didn’t quite realize that a college education was attainable, but when surrounded by people who offered words of encouragement, opportunity, and direction they found that it was well within their reach.” The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program was launched nationally in 2001, and Comcast has awarded nearly $26 million in scholarships to help nearly 25,000 high school students throughout the country to pursue their higher education goals.
This year, the program will award more than $2 million in scholarships to more than 2,000 students across the country to help them pursue higher education. Visit here to learn more.
