Honoring Comcast’s female leaders for Women’s History Month
Victoria Rubio is quick to see potential in people in the same way that her photographer’s eye captures the beauty in Southern Arizona’s cactus-dotted landscapes.
Victoria has been a human resources manager with Comcast Tucson since June 2017. She has nearly 12 years of experience in Human Resources, a role that she loves because of the countless opportunities she finds to help others. She works across Comcast’s business units — from sales to technical operations, product to employee experience and training — to empower employees in their roles.
We sat down with Victoria to hear what motivates her, and how she supports her team.
Which of Comcast’s company values resonate with you most?
We do what’s right — and to me, a high level of integrity is so important. That’s a value that was instilled in me growing up, and I am proud to work for an amazing company that shares that value and has such a high regard for employees. It’s so rewarding to train staff and give them the tools to move forward. Our employees are constantly collaborating, troubleshooting and brainstorming in order to deliver the best customer experience. It’s phenomenal.
What motivates you to mentor others?
I feel it’s my purpose to help people step into new opportunities. There is no greater motivation than witnessing how people grow in their roles and grow as people. I love to share my knowledge and spread awareness about career opportunities in HR, and in the corporate world in general.
I’ve had two really strong mentors in my life. They took the time to show me what’s important, and I’d define those values as confidence, happiness and empowerment. I try to instill that in my coworkers and the people I mentor.
How do you support other women in your professional circles?
Comcast does a great job empowering our staff in general, but especially women. We are encouraged to develop our leadership skills. Because of that working environment, we are constantly improving ourselves and helping one another to grow.
When I work with women in different departments, I like to help them identify their goals. “What motivates you?” “What can we do to help you grow?” I like to remind them that we are all leaders in our own way. We see things through different lenses, but we can work together toward common goals.
What would people be surprised to learn about you? Where would we find you when you’re not at work?
I’m an avid University of Arizona Wildcat fan, and a Chicago Cubs fan. You can often find me at spring training, soaking in the sunshine. I also have taken up sunrise and sunset photography. I love the spectacular times of day when the sky is full of color and the saguaro cactus are silhouetted against the horizon. There’s nothing like it!
