Recognizing the Best and Brightest High School Seniors in Southern Arizona
Nine Southern Arizona students are now more equipped to pay for college expenses, thanks to Comcast NBCUniversal’s Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program.
The Leaders and Achievers program, funded by the Comcast Foundation, recognizes outstanding high school seniors who strive to achieve their full potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for other students. Students are rewarded for their community service, academic performance and leadership skills.
This year, students will each receive $1,000 scholarships. Emma Galligan, a resident of Tucson and student at Sonoran Science Academy, was selected to receive an additional $4,000 Comcast Founders Scholarship. The Founders Scholarship was instituted in honor of Ralph J. Roberts, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Comcast Corporation.
“Growing up, my family always talked about politics and was very passionate about social justice, and it made me love politics and social justice, too. I have always viewed politics as something that affects people’s lives and is therefore very important. Getting your voice heard and going out there and voting can really change what happens in your community. Because of this, I want to learn more about politics and law and am looking forward to a career where I can really put forth positive change.” – Emma Galligan, Sonoran Science Academy, Tucson
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting the scholarship recipients who have already shown remarkable leadership experience both in and out of the classroom on our social media channels (Twitter: @ComcastTucson & Facebook: @Comcast). Stay tuned to learn more about the students!
